Experimental and Numerical Study on the Hydrodynamic Performance of Suspended Curved Breakwaters

The purpose of breakwaters is to protect the ports, beaches, or beach facilities from strong waves and storms, as they help establish calm inside port thus achieve safety for ships ease operation. This paper presents an experimental numerical study unconventional alternatives vertical breakwater in order evaluate hydrodynamic performance proposed models. Two cases a semi-submerged were selected form half-pipe section with diameter 20 cm thickness 1 cm. Case (a) was concave type semicircular breakwater, while case (b) convex type. Numerical modeling FLOW 3D used construct numerous scenarios simulation breakwaters. obtained results indicates that, when comparing wave transmission coefficient (Kt) its reflection (Kr) relative water depth (h/L), decreased height wave, completely reversed. In (a), Kt less than at range 10% 15%, Kr bigger 5% 10%. When hit it reflected back energy dissipated speed decreases approaches port. velocity bottom, which means that affected by water, i.e. lower depth, velocity. more efficient effective dissipation, current velocity, bed stability (b), so recommended use due efficiency protecting coastal areas generating electricity.
